Jack P. - Fifteen months ago I was not sure I would walk again without the aid of a cane, walker, or other assistive device. I had such pain in my right leg, that I was able to move only with baby steps and a cane. I had a history of lower back pain since I was 18. I had doctored with my Family Physician in Clinton for years. I am now 62 years old. My Family Physician referred me to Iowa City several years ago and they found nothing to treat. He referred me to the Pain Clinic in the Quad Cities. After several years of epidural shots in my back, my problem continued, with mild short term relief. My Family Physician continued to follow my case, and finally referred me to the Neurology Team at Genesis.

After reviewing X-Rays, MRI's and CAT Scans, Dr. Maioriello, determined that I was a candidate for a fusion of vertebrate 4 & 5. This was done in July, 2006. The surgery was not an easy one to recover from. It took a several months of Physical Therapy to regain my muscle strength, but the entire process was well worth it. I can now move about without the aid of a cane. Itake regular steps, walk on the treadmill 40 minutes a day, maintain several gardens and a pond, and am golfing 2-3 times per week.

"I am grateful to Dr. Maioriello and the Surgical Team and the Physical Therapy Team who made these positive results for me." - Jack P.
